Open-ear headphones sit outside the ear canal, so nothing presses on or plugs your ears. They also let you hear your surroundings while you listen. There are three designs: bone conduction bands, ear-hook earbuds and clip-on earbuds. The six below cover all three.

Every specification on this page comes from the manufacturer’s own product page, checked on 26 October 2026. We have not used these products ourselves, so the picks are based on published specifications only.

How we chose these

  • Open-ear design: nothing inside the ear canal.
  • Battery and water rating published by the maker.
  • Weight or fit details given, such as adjustable hooks or sizes.

Open-ear designs let in outside sound by design, so they are not a substitute for noise cancelling on planes or trains. Listening hours below are the makers’ “up to” figures; for earbuds with a case, they usually include recharges from the case.
